Universal Studios Express Pass Should I Pay the Extra?

Universal Studios Express Pass Tickets

05_The Simpsons Ride

The Universal Studios fast pass is exactly what the name entails, a pass that can be used in order to skip the lines and experience the most of the theme park without having to wait behind hundreds of other guests. With the use of the Universal Studios Express Pass, customers will be put into a separate line (consisting of far less guests) to ride the most popular attractions inside of Universal Studios. If you are currently planning a vacation for you and your family, consider purchasing a Universal Studios Express Pass for the whole group.

Universal Express Passes:

There are a number of different options for the Universal Express Passes and this is where it can get a little confusing. If you are just visiting one of the Universal parks for one day only then you can buy a express pass starting from $34.99 this allows you to jump the queue at all qualifying attractions once per ride.

Universal Express Unlimited Pass

If you want to ride the same ride over and over and jump the queue, each time, you will need a Universal Express Unlimited Pass which for a single day for one park only, starts from $49.99.

2-Park Universal Express Pass

The next option is a 2-Park Universal Express Pass which is for when you have a one day Park-to-Park ticket so you are planning on visiting both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in a single day. This allows you to jump the queue on all qualifying rides once per ride only, and prices start from $39.99.

If you want to have unlimited rides on your Park-to-Park ticket you will need a 2-Park Universal Express Unlimited Pass which starts from $59.99 and is valid for one day only.

Park-To-Park Ticket + Universal Express Unlimited

The last option is to bundle your ticket and Universal Express Passes together, they offer a Park-to-Park ticket so that's a one day ticket that allows you in to both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure with an Unlimited Express Pass so you can ride your favourite attractions as many times as you like without queuing, prices start from $209.99.

All prices are from and can vary a lot so please check the web site for the price on your planned date, as you would expect these passes cost more in the busier times so don't expect to pay the prices quoted here for peak summer holidays. To give you an example if I wanted to buy the basic Express Pass for today (12/08/15) for Universal Studios only it would be $84.99 so a lot different to the $34.99 for low season.

To be honest if you are visiting outside of school holidays and during the week you probably won't need this pass but if you are visiting in the school holidays or at the weekends and want to ride everything is one day then it's well worth it, also you won't have to queue in the very hot sun if you are visiting in the summer months. Most of the queuing areas do have shade or water sprays to help keep you cool but it can still be very hot especially from June - September.

I hope I have explained all the options available but do make sure you check the website or buy in advance so you know the rate, I don't want you turning up at Universal expecting to pay $34.99 for the Express Pass only to find it's $84.99. Visit the Universal Express Pass web page for more info and prices.

Let me know if you have been to either of the Universal Studios parks and used an Express Pass and did you think it was worth it?

I have purchased one for Halloween Horror nights a few years ago and I know it was a godsend as the queues were massive and we would have never seen all the haunted houses in one night without it.

If you plan to visit both the Universal Parks a number of times then a combo ticket maybe the better option and you can purchase these as part of a Disney / Universal 14 day ticket which then gives you plenty of time to go on all the rides without any problems. You can find out more info about the combo park tickets from our recommend partner Orlando Ticket Deals.
