The majority of the smaller homes on the Shire at West Haven are single story. With the larger homes being over two floors, with a bedroom downstairs for Granny! These larger vacation rentals will often have balconies leading off the master bedroom, ideal for a little quiet time and glass of wine after a long day at the theme parks!
Depending on the road where you are staying, some of the Orlando vacation rentals on the Shire look onto conservation lakes, ideal for spotting some Florida wildlife including the alligators, no need to worry they’re not as large as the big boys in Gatorland!
The Shire at West Haven is a 24hr gated community, giving a secure feel to the estate. Staying on The Shire also gives you access to the main clubhouse, with it’s own air conditioned gym, communal pool and tennis courts.
The Shire at West Haven is easily accessed from the main Orlando International Airport (MCO). We always advise to take the Toll road; it’s a much quieter and easier route after your long flight. Simply pick up the 417 heading South as you leave the airport, this will join on to the I4 (Interstate 4) heading West after you have been through 3 or 4 toll booths. Once on the I4 take the exit for Champions Gate (58) and you are now only a couple of minutes from home.
Accessing the Orlando theme parks from The Shire at West Haven is also very easy, within 15 minutes you will be at Disney. Simply head for the I4 going through Champions Gate, making sure you are heading East. Each of the Disney parks will be signposted from the I4, and then simply follow the purple Disney signs to the park you want.
If you are a keen golfer head for Champions Gate, you will not only have a choice of two championship courses designed by Greg Norman, but also excellent practice facilities and the reward of a great lunch and a beer on the terrace when you are finished, I highly recommend the flatbreads!
Other nearby courses include Ridgewood Lakes (10 mins), Southern Dunes (15 mins), Highlands Reserve (10 mins), Mystic Dunes (10 mins) and Reunion Resort (5 mins) which has three courses designed by Nicklaus, Palmer and Watson.
Local to you at Champions Gate is a parade of useful shops, including a Publix (supermarket), where you can get all your everyday shopping, including fresh vegetables, meat and fish. You won’t be able to resist the bakery counter either, I recommend the Cranberry & Walnut bread!
If you would prefer to go out for dinner without driving too far then, Champions Gate again has the answer, with a family run Italian pizzeria or Chilli’s Mexican inspired restaurant where it’s happy hour all day long. There is also a McDonalds and Subway for a quick snack.
For more choice in under 10 minutes drive, take the I4 East and come off at exit 60 on to the 429 Toll Road, follow this for about 5 - 6 miles and then take the exit for HWY 192. After passing the toll, take a right for a variety of restaurants including Longhorn Steakhouse, Millers Ale House, Olive Garden, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, TGI Friday, OutBack Steak House and Red Lobster. It will cost you 75 cents to travel on the 429 toll road which you will need in change, as the toll is unmanned when you exit.
